Analyzing the effects of human activities on the environment and determining potential risks to ecosystems.
With industrialization and urbanization, INCD ECOIND is involved in conducting studies to predict toxic potential and evaluate the influence of climate change, applying multidisciplinary techniques from chemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology.
Analyzing the quality of water resources, including aquatic ecosystems, to determine if they are healthy and sustainable for human use and natural conservation.
Active monitoring of environmental factors—water, air, soil, waste—for pollution control, using biological models as biomarkers for pollution control.
Research studies on aquatic and terrestrial ecotoxicity analyze the toxic effects of chemicals and contaminated environmental samples on fish, invertebrates, algae, plants, and bacteria, both individually and in species batteries.
These studies aim to establish risk phrases according to the REACH Regulation, determine discharge limits, assess environmental risks, evaluate the efficiency of treatment technologies, the toxicity of reusable waste, the degree of bioaccumulation and sub-lethal effects, the efficiency of algaecides, and the impact of microplastics.
Prospectively, research aims to develop predictive biological models, in vitro tests, and expand studies on micro- and nanomaterials, thus contributing to better environmental protection.
INCD ECOIND implements modern methods such as next-generation sequencing of environmental DNA (eDNA) for biodiversity analysis, thereby contributing to the global effort to conserve ecosystems and the species that depend on them.
The development of tools for biodiversity analysis has become an imperative necessity, considering the current challenges faced by society: climate change, reduction or disappearance of species due to water pollution, habitat fragmentation, and the emergence of invasive species.
Testing the biodegradability of organic substances is essential in environmental studies because it allows for the assessment of ecotoxicological risk and the identification of persistent compounds that can affect ecosystems.
This supports sustainable development by promoting the use of eco-friendly substances and facilitates compliance with environmental regulations regarding chemical product safety.
Air pollutant dispersion studies in the atmosphere through mathematical modeling involve the use of Gaussian or Lagrangian models to analyze the temporal and spatial evolution of pollutants in the atmosphere.
